I just got this email from my company with the subject line:

"REMINDER -  ACTION REQUIRED - Return to Office Guidelines"

    Here's what it said:

"Action required" to do a voluntary form? What?

I'm shot up, but I'm too lazy to find the record, type it in, and then submit it... especially "expeditiously" as requested.

I went through the same nonsense from a previous job a couple years ago. I refused to participate based on the "voluntary" statement and I was shit on big time. Lost a days work without pay as punishment.

Transparency is a lost art in the business world. "Say what you mean. Mean what you say".

I had some issues for the first 2-3 ice times when I made the switch from my 34+1 V4's to my 33+1.5 RGT 1's.

Felt awkward as the thighrises constantly bumped into each other, I felt like I was somewhat tripping over myself. I obviously adjusted and never pay them any mind, but your experiences are similar to mine.

Well that brings some form of comfort to my ears.

Do you wear the knee strap across or down?

Since you're using the SR GT2, there isn't any hypercomp reinforcement in the thigh, so you'll have an easier time breaking them in.

And I understand the almost misguiding advertising for the RGT lines. They're essentially a Ritual line but with more torsional flex. The cavernous leg channel will definitely play a lot different than a "traditional" pad. It also doesn't help that the GT2 line has a softer calf wrap portion that lets the pad 'hang' off your leg a lot more.

The slit in the G5 leg channel to modify how tight you want the leg strap was a good change, the GT2 line really kind of forces you into a particular strapping style.

Which I'm fine with, but I definitely see why people wouldn't like it.

I can deal with a looser leg channel. A wide knee cradle, perfect. It's just the way the thigh rise sticks out, both legs keep beating on each other while I'm trying to do my thing in goal. I'm thinking that mine could of just been a 35" straight and do without the 1.5 extra and still play just fine.

  4. I will try a few things to see if it gets better and yes, they should soften up at the thigh rise I hope. Amazing that them being so thin, at the same time can be so stiff.

Erik, the issue with you and I is that we are used to either a tapered or mushy thigh rise. The new stuff is totally different. Even my just sold Reactor 9000, they looked the part but something was different, despite them being from 2015-2017.

  5. Second game in with the pads and I have a huge disclaimer:

Saying these pads are "hybrid" or more traditional is a serious misnomer! They feel AND play like a modern stiff butterfly pad, period. Walking with them is awkward. Skating with them is awkward. The stance in them is awkward. They kind of force me in a wider stance. They play great in the butterfly but are nothing like they are marketed for.

I appreciate the lightness, the ease of strapping, the solid butterfly, but the mobility is a challenge onto itself.

    Am I the only one?

  6. Not to ruin anyone's game plan but, watching some of Trav4's recent videos with Pasco Valana, he points out a few important things to consider before doing a Bob spec mod to your stick, along the lines of affecting the lie angle, down position and deflection control. You can see a few examples as he is doing the drills.

In any case, you can still try it out for fun if you wish.

When someone as recognised as Pasco drops some science, you wanna hear him out.

So for my first summer in Memphis, Tennessee, I was concerned the heat would make wearing my Brown 2100 unbearable. I started the season using my Vaughn 8800. However, since I was playing in the Advanced division in addition to the Intermediate division I was already playing in, I wanted the added protection and size of the Brown 2100. I went back to the Brown full time for both teams mid-season and was able to deal with the added weight and heat of the unit. I still may use the Vaughn for drop-ins or an over-35 mid-week skate we do. I like having both options. Figured this account would help those debating the added weight and lack of breathability of Brown C/As.

Here I am in the Brown 2100 looking somewhat confused and concerned 😳.

GT 1 was also a 70 degree break where as the Ritual line and the GT2 are both 75.

It's quite a different feel and I'm with you on this one Rich, I much preferred the GT1 over the GT2/RG5 gloves. But they're close enough where it's not too alien.

True. Either gloves feel nice in my hand and difference is very minute. But the T is much longer on the G5 in my eyes, which I'm not a great fan off. The GT glove looks and feels small on my hand and that suits me well. Better glove control for me. I am eyeing the GT2 though to match my pads.

Aside from team issued stuff this is the final piece of the puzzle

Finally ready to perform this season and hopefully get plenty of game time despite it being my first year of juniors.

I'm guessing it's the G5? I tried one on today and although the closure was butter, I don't like the shape. It seems built long compared to my GT which looks rounder. Maybe it's just me.

Now you need a family pic :D

I've been eyeing Warrior RGT as my next set of pads for a while. I tried some in the store a couple of years ago, I liked the feel, except the very stiff thighs, as you noted. That kind of scared me away from them. Let me know if you adjust to them, I'm still thinking about a pair.

Instead of the RGT, I went with Brian's Gnetik2, which I've liked for the most part, but took some adapting. The elastic toe-ties really messed me up, felt too loose, but I just replaced them with regular skate laces, and all was well again :)

I have a game lined up Monday, hoping for more in between. I'll let you know for sure. It's nothing like you and I are used to for sure.

The original GTs aren't as thin in the thighs so the adjustment shouldn't be that drastic. I would of went with those had i been able to find  pair in my size. Hence why the GT2s.

The primary difference between SR+ and SR is the protection level.  Like some have mentioned above, the SR+ has the doubled elbow floaters like you see on G5 Pro and GT2 Pro.  The G5 SR model does not.  The G5 SR also does not have the length extensions whereas the G5 SR+ does.  The easiest way I can explain it (although not super detailed) is that the SR+ truly is just a step down from the G5 Pro model.  The G5 SR is a conventional unit with lesser build of protection and additional features.

@Kirk3190 are they the same size specs or is the SR+ less streamlined?

Here is an example of paddle length discrepancy between brands and within same brands.

All the sticks pictured are listed as 25. The first 2 sticks are from JRZ, same model, just different color. The 3rd pic is a Warrior VR2.

There seems to be a 1/2 inch difference between both the JRZ sticks and a full inch difference with the Warrior stick. This seems to follow the same issues we face with leg pad length from one brand to another. I wish there was an established standard to avoid said discrepancy when ordering/buying sticks.

So I put each stick flush to the wall via the paddle edge and the difference is remarkable and disappointing at the same time.

The first mark, #1, is the white JRZ stick. The second mark, #2, is the natural JRZ stick. The third mark, #3, is the Warrior stick.

Keep in mind that they are all sold as 25".

  13. So I played my first game in the pads tonight and, oh what an experience lolll

They are sooooo light! Skating with them was so awkward, it felt like I had plywood sheets sitting over my thighs. After a good 10 minutes I felt a little more comfortable and mobile. Rebounds are nice without being exaggerated. Knee lift were perfect. Knee pads (SR Ritual) were more than sufficient and didn't bother me at all, even if I didn't receive shots there. Sliding was ok. I don't care what material or design you use on pads for sliding, if the ice is shit, nothing spectacular will happen. It was suitable.

In the end, I think I'm gonna like these once I dial-in the toe ties. I ordered the Trav spec Pro Laces. Hopefully they will do the job. If not, project time :D

Unless that's a Senior level only change they made specifically for the GT2 pads then... My GT1 Senors came with knee pads and toe straps, as did my pro GT2's.

Yeah, I wasn't going to argue about it. I might of not used them but I still was curious on how they felt. No biggie
