I've used both TGN spec and Armor Hybrid models and the issue I always had was I couldn't push hard out of RVH to the top of the crease. That issue was resolved with skate lace. I don't use near the amount slack that Bones does but it's definitely a good bit of lace.

Are you pushing off the post with your pad?

I wanted to try Warrior pants for a long time, and yesterday, immediately after receiving it, I had the first ice with them. the most favorable experience. very mobile and lightweight, do not feel at all and do not interfere with movement. very satisfiedb4hENzegdhQ.thumb.jpg.e1166841b54492f20ac10d758977f9e1.jpg

I have a hard time getting over the look of the armadillo wrap around the sides. It's just me. And if you were to get it team custom, like the Habs, seems like the stripes would be cut off because of the wrap.

Personally I’ve been loving skate lace after using prolaces. I use 2 or 3 inches of slack and post integration is a million times better with laces than bungee toe ties. Seal and rotation are still spot on for the pad

Bonesy, the EBUG for the Preds on Youtube has crazy slack on his lace toe ties.

I get the post integration thing, which is why I prefer the Trav model better than the original and I'm assuming the TGN gives ample slack or stretch as well for said purpose.

And his first impressions are about as useful as a Walmart greeter giving us his first impression of the new graphics on a box of Lucky Charms....

You have to give him some credit for buying the gear to test it out or at least give us an in depth look at it. Unfortunately he can't test the new stuff cause he has to return it.

I don't see many firsthand-unbiased-non promotional video reviews that aren't just about the same brands, even if he does cover the big 5.

  5. I got me the Trav spec 1.0 some weeks ago. A couple games in with them and I'm happy. They are longer than the original Pro Lace (which I also own) and with my size 9 skates, I cross the cord once in the front, go all the way to the back and cross it through once and then over top and I still have a little slack which takes the tension off of my stiff ankles.

The original ones would only loop through at the front and up and they would feel so tight, especially since the GT2s don't have much of a toe bridge drop to them.

I love modern gear. Pretty sure the pads I use now are lighter than what I used at 9 years old.

Although my GT2s are both lighter than one of the Reactor 9000s I had and even lighter than the Coopers and D&Rs of my youth, it doesn't make me a better goalie...just less tired :D

I think what we’ve learned here is that if something works and people like it, why bother completely overhauling it?

This is where you'll find guys still wearing gear that was produced 10-20-30 years ago and not care for change. Then you have the now generation who absolutely think that the newest lines are the better ones and is the answer to better goaltending.

If you're a goalie that has never rocked old gear, it makes it hard for you to understand. The difference in wearing pillows versus boards is pretty obvious, but at the same time, the way you will play with this gear is as different.

Sometimes change is good and welcomed, others times not so much. The problem I can see is that you can't expect the gear to play both ways 100%. You can take modern gear and use it for pro-fly or stand-up equally, but you can't say the same with vintage gear. I'm getting way off topic here.

Bottom line, there's only so much you can improve on a base design or concept. Anything more would be simply tweaks and adjustments.

  8. I know, I know, it's just beer league hockey, right? Ah but here comes this thing called "eeeego"
Top 30 Dr Evil Quote GIFs | Find the best GIF on Gfycat

I could blame it on lack of conditioning. Bad sleep. Previous night's game. Physical fatigue. Mental fatigue. Pandemic time off. Too many carbs at supper. Pick and choose...

You feel good, you make the first save, "AWESOME!", and it's game on. Rob a few close ones, make a dive or two, and then first goal goes in. No problem. Reset.

Game goes on, a couple more big saves, one TSN Highlight Moment followed by a weak goal. And now it starts. It's been 20some minutes in the game and for some damn reason, everything is starting to fall apart. Sure, defensive back check is becoming a thing of the past. You're often left alone on some 2 on 1s or 0s. You try hard but now, what the brain wants you to do, the body dismisses and somehow becomes a simple spectator to your own demise.

Should I play deep? Do I take Hasek chances? Must I cheat on the pass only to get faked out of my skates on a simple slide-in goal? AHHHHH, the frustration! Most often this compounded by being a replacement goalie for which you wanna show your full experience and capabilities. Nada. You keep recalling the comment 15 minutes in "Holly shit man, what a steal!", guys on the bench banging their sticks on the boards in approval. You feel like Cloutier in Vancouver during the 2002 playoffs against the Red Wings.

"It's a damn good thing I'm not paid" you tell yourself. Depending on the group you're playing with, either they just shrug it off and thank you for coming out, or the dreaded silence in the change room. The pain and embarrassment.

Somehow, deep inside, far far within the reaches of our soul, we manage to suck it up, find a way to move passed it (at our own rate) and chuck it in the gear bag with the rest of humbling scars. Lick your wounds and come back another day to fight for your intrepid honour.
