Do they always touch the ice at that shallow of an angle?

They do ride low don't they. My Bauer 9000s did the same. The squarer the boot the more contact I guess. My GT2s have that slight taper that prevents that. Then again, it might also depend if your toe ties are very slack and if your pads are oversized.

I played in a local youth organization alumni game last week and they had a photographer! That being said, luckily I had a matching set lol.

Custom Warrior set or off the shelf?

Shawn has built me a couple. I am talking new plastic SK2000, which is unobtanium.

Yes, Shawn. I always messed up his spelling. Hope he doesn't hate me :(. He made me a shell when he first experimented with the Hasek look-a-like. Really nice guy.

Plastic SK reproduced parts are even rarer than Unicorns and Sasquatches. All examples so far have been composites. I'm sure you might get lucky on FB if you searched hard enough.

Itech made a cheek and chin protector. I had a composite version.

If I could source the moulds, you had better believe I would have a new SK2000.

Sean from Custom Composites out of Cali makes some. Rey also has a similar version.

  5. I'm more of a classic clean combo guy. I've worn the SK2000/HM30 Osgood, Cloutier, the SK600/HM30 Tretiak, Vernon, the Sk2000/HM50? Hasek, Prussek, the JOFA390/bubble cage. I did try an Itech cage and another Cooper bubble cage that the number escapes me.

All of these were available in pictures on the old GSBB (R.I.P.).

The newer Thomas and Kaskisuo combos look cool but I haven't seen one live. They remind me of the old JOFA mask combo. Another company also had a built on plastic cheek/chin plate. I forgot the name, again. I had one of those as well. Winwell I believe?

  6. I'm stubborn. My competitive ego often has the better of me. I'm sure some of you could admit the same. I'm 53 and, slowing down or struggling in a game does bruise my pride as a long time experienced goalie. It's what we have to deal with as the game clock keeps ticking.

In my 30s, I subbed in a game where 6 players showed up. We were playing one of the top teams in the division (beer league). The guys in front had already decided to lose even before puck drop. Five minutes into the game I suffer a high sprang in my right leg. It was a 10 out of 10 in pain. I played through it despite clearly looking like an injured animal in the crease. It was a mix of survival, pride, ego, reputation. We lost, a true blowout. I hobbled to the dressing room and then on. Took me a year to recover. No hockey, no dancing, no running, no cycling. I was done for literally 12 months. Was it smart? Not really. I was hungry for action and wouldn't take no for an answer, not even from myself.

I have had other close calls, like a puck to the neck, 2 crash-ins (which was surely the culprit to my now occasional back issues). I've even showed up at games when I had a migraine or my back was on the verge of locking out. Funny thing, as soon as you step in the crease and the game commences, you kind of forget the pain or discomfort, for the time of play. Mind over matter? Competitive drive? Fear of embarrassment? who knows.

I can play through bruises and hard shots and some strains and tightness, but I do try to consider the severity of my injuries now. I'm not a payed professional after all.

Did you see them in store ? For me the 3x is a 2xpro… 3x don’t seem to have the hyperlite flex at the tight rise they only put them the stability knee block

Only saw the catcher and i had issues getting my hand in, and i don't have giant hands.

These were featured in my pad paint thread.  I have liberated these of the post wedge, knee wraps and modded the calf wraps. I just completed the calf wrap mod:

I hope you're playing with a cowling, like your Vaughn 1 skates.

What exactly have you felt/seen better by removing the outer calf wing?

  10. @Windmill save I'm gonna go with many points Coop brought up. Playing big and square totally based on your gear can be somewhat counter productive in a way. Based on your pic, you don't look very tall (yet) and you have a very low stance. in your case, focusing on angles and depth could be your best tool in your learning curve to help cut down on those top corners. And do not neglect your skating abilities as getting to the spot before the shot is released will be greatly to your advantage as well.

Look at Sarro with the Preds. He's currently the shortest goalie in the show and has developed those exact same skills I mentioned above to make him one of the best in the league of giants. You could learn quite a bit by studying his games.

You mentioned Mckenney. Their shoulder width tend to be on the wide side, without exaggerating. That being said, proper sizing is highly important as to not hinder movement or mask mobility that can screw up your side vision on backdoor plays.

G5 style blocker is velcro palm. GT2 style is fixed

Oval shape glove is sewn in. Round glove, i honestly cant remember. Once i saw they offered a 90 degree break i stopped paying attention to the rest hah.

I wish @Kirk3190 would chime in already. I'm guessing he might of seen this thread by now.

The G6 line will be available in march. Custom orders will be taken in Jan. They have merged the GT line and G5 lines together.

    - Two glove and blocker options available. Gloves, a 'round' build and 'oval' build (60&90 degree). Blockers, G5 style with a flatter thicker board. then a GT2 style with a thinner board and more of a kick for better paddle down flex.
    - Pads... The knee block now features a polycarb/hdpe/plastic landing plate on the knee block, which is removable to allow a more tradition knee landing if you are sliding around too fast. The airslide/channels/groove thingy is now only on the calf. Back side looks much the same to previous pads just a little cleaner. Appears to be more options when it comes to materials.

Thats all i can recall so far.

Sewn in palm or inserts again?

@RichMan I have the Warrior gloves with all of the 60/75/90 inserts. I frequently switch between the 60/75 without anything feeling out of whack. For whatever reason - I've never gotten around to trying the 90. Hope that helps.

So the difference is barely noticeable? My GT, said to be a 70 is almost in between. Having tried the Bauer 9000 and the JRZ Fusion, both 60, the difference is somewhat noticeable compared to my GT.

  14. I think a retail sewn 75 and a custom whatever-you-want should be the way to go.

Not sure if it's been mentioned but, is it not ironic that the goalie testing the G6 overseas is a Smith himself? Smith testing "by Smith". Just pointing out :P
