I can't tell from the pictures - is it one cord that is laced all the way around? Or multiple cords? If it's one, a failure where the single cord under tension is cut seems like it could be catastrophic as opposed to a single cord.

I'm imagining a single cord failing and that whole single cord under tension unraveling and slicing you up pretty good.

The wire is made from Dyneema, if I'm reading correctly, which is similar to Kevlar. I know you need some pretty sharp scissors to handle Kevlar. Would this stuff slice you up worse/deeper than a shard of steel?

I did also hear and see the bullet proof vest example. Now I'm no engineer but I still have a brain (I'm a goalie after all), and how I understand kevlar vests is that it's a multiple layers of interwoven fabric and kevlar, not under tension, but woven is a multi directional pattern to prevent the bullet or whatever to pierce the vest. The wires on the mask is a pretty thin strand or multiple strands creating a single wire tout under extreme tension, no backup layers or deceleration response like the vest or DO3. The free floating middle bar is probably how vibration impact is dispersed, but it still makes me question as well the difference between a steel bar bend and a full on snap of the wire(s).

The man is a space engineer and is surely a mathematical and physics genius but I still challenge the idea. I guess we'll soon find out more if this catches wind in main stream media or even makes it to the NHL boardroom.

I bought it new for my son during lockdown from a guy that needed to unload it. It was broken within 2-3 practices and mobility is excellent. Keep in mind that during practices he gets way more shots than during games. So if you play games only, it might take longer.  He loves it and he likes the peace off mind of not having to worry about any pain. After a year of intense use, the protection hasn't changed and i can tell this will last a long time.

As far as the weight goes, I wanted a baseline measurement during the off season when they unit is bone dry. He is practicing almost everyday and sometime twice a day, so monitoring if the unit has time to dry and doesn't become waterlogged seems likes good idea. I was also wondering if salt from sweat could build up to a significant degree.

Mine lasted 10 years before I started to feel the puck a bit more but it didn't bother me. Had to chuck it as it became victim of mould due to a basement flooding. Would of bought another one but my budget was not up to it.

Not mine.  But Brian Vickers in the Facebook Group, Vintage Goalie Equipment just had this made by Brown.  This is freakin gorgeous!!

What a beautiful throwback! Reminds me of my first Brown unit I owned, except mine was used and yellowish lolll

What a wonderful long ago memory for me. I so wanted one of these units but made do with my Cooper 2 piece Chest and Arm.

    Oh the childhood memories ❤️

I have a JB 2200 protector size large.  I let it hang dry after every ice touch. At the end of it's first season, it started to feel heavy and needed to be cleaned.  I let it soak in a bathtub for  couple hours with clothing detergent then rinse it out and let it soak again in clean water. I then took it out and let it dry for 2 week in our dry California garage. It has been dry for many days but it still weight 9.3 lbs. On the Brown website it says it should be under 6lbs.  What could be going on?

My JB503, that strongly resembles the JB500 shown above, was not all that heavy, maybe 6-8lbs. Clearly it wasn't loaded like your 2200. That is A LOT of extra padding.

And we all know that breaking in a Brown takes a while but well worth the effort and time. Once really broken in they actually feel like a sweater as most of you say of the Vaughn units, but maybe like a nice thick wool sweater 😁

I see that you're in Gatineau, do you just need a practice jersey?

I was recently given a bunch of goalie cut jerseys that range in size, and some that are too big for me. If you can drive to meet me somewhere in Ottawa, it's yours for free. Bring your chest so that you can try it on.

I very much appreciate the offer. Can't drive right now, had a bad accident at work and still on crutches after 3 weeks. My right ankle (pedal foot) of course. Rain check maybe?

I've been searching for a few years now for a Habs goalie cut practice jersey, crest and all like the ones they wear when at Brossard. All I've found online were forward smalls and mediums.

Looks like the site hasn't been updated since 2018.

Their 'hot player' jersey sales leader is MAF Vegas jersey.

Yeah, and zero customer reviews...so many of these jersey sales sites seem fishy.

  6. Don't know if there is already a jersey thread so, here is MY question

    If the online size options are as follows: S /M / L / XL / 2XL / 3XL

As a rule of thumb, if the goalie cut option is not available, which of the 2 last ones is more suitable for my XL chest protector? Will I really need to cut the sleeves or have them tailored?

  7. Lets not forget that HOW you wear the chest protector can give an optical advantage. Not saying someone cheated here but we aren't in the trenches hearing and seeing all that goes on.

If you take a current NHL approved unit, loosen the back straps a little, loosen the arm floaters elastics a little and if possible reposition the shoulder wings, you could end up looking like Giguere and still be within regulations. Just look at how sloppy Tokarsky looked in his set up. I thought he was simply overweight lolll. Look how massive Lehner is yet he's all legal and wears his snug to the body.

I use these, good durability and hold still on the leg well, only disadvantage is the bulk cause the pads to push them up your leg a little bit

For how I wear my pads, that is why I'm selling mine. We're not talking bulky like the CCM ones but they don't work for me like my Warriors.

It doesn't quite look like a 1:1 port of the Bauer Stabilislide/Flex.  Bauer uses a pretty thick piece of plastic that makes the pad a little bit top heavy

Based on pictures, it looks like the integrated knee is only at the outer knee wing.  The knee block looks like the same old design, but possibly sewn in instead of laced in.

    Here's a seamless inner

    image.png.1443be69e64c730adc49fa3783e106ba.png

Here's the knee block, you can see some foam sticking out where it butts up against the back of the pad

For the modern pro-fly goalie, this is golden. I don't see why they waited so long to try this, and even more so, why not do the same with the calf portion. A one piece inside wall can only solidify the seal on the ice and I'm sure it gives better knee/leg drive when dropping.

Symmetric graphics aren’t bad with axis 2 either

Simmons had an almost if not completely identical graphic back in their early days, late 90s early 2000. For the life of me I can't remember what the line was called. I think it was around their Platinum line days.

Forgive my ignorance as I've never really had a calf pillow, and I understand the better/faster seal. But in terms of comfort, would it not add more stress to the knee after a certain point? I would think that you would want your knees to be at a higher or at least at the same height as your calf.

Ideally, you don't want to go any higher than the knee block, true. Most goalies have torsional flexibility in the hips and knees enabling the skate boot to be parallel or near parallel to the ice when in their butterfly. I don't have that luxury anymore (don't know if I ever did, coming from old school goaltending in my younger days) and so I feel lots of stress in my ankles as my toes tend to want to point straight down to the ice, sometimes with an angle on a good day (thank goodness for the advent of bungee like toe ties).

I'm curious about the science involved as Maria's video was mentioned, and then you have makers without calf wedges, some with slight ones like my Warriors and then some with massive ones like the new Bauer Mach. It's hard to follow what is right and isn't. Other than Maria's take on it, I don't think there has been much written on the subject out there, at least available to the public.

  12. Another question...

Has anyone added more foam on the inside of the calf landing to give the pads more lift to level with the knee landing?

its not the knee pads , its the leg pads,  u r not supposed to buy pads with all the knee calf junk in the first place and if u do u cut that all out and throw it in the trash.

My GT2 pads don't have much "junk" in the knee cradle and I like to wear my pads traditionally with the knee lock to get a better connection with the pads. I would of suggested a few mods to the Warrior development team if they were open to hearing it.

  14. As I'm sitting here on my couch in my living room, staring across the room at my GT2 pads while recuperating from a work injury, this thought crept into my mind;

How long has the quality and durability lasted to still provide a strong and secure fit. Will the only option be to replace the whole pads completely when the velcro no longer does its job??
