Those pads look super soft. I am guessing they are not what they appear to be, right? Love Quick, as well!

They're more or less V4's with V2's leg channel.

Quick's been using pads stuffed with cotton candy since before you were born.

If you watch him play he squishes them down all the time when getting up after whistles and he likes them to flex (twist) torsionally.

He's more old school,  for sure .

Definitely a bit of a relic to how pads used to be. It's fun seeing old early 2000's Junior league pictures. The difference in how goalies looked and the gear as a whole is a fun reminisce. You do forget how much has changed.

I never used them. I would drop them down or have them loosen, then strap the rest of the pad rather tight (which was kind of impossible not to do in the V1).

I feel like pads finally caught up to how I liked them to feel back then only in the last few years.

Super squishy boot and super tight toe ties

I feel like his toe ties are actually not that tight if you look at his blocker side you can see there is a reasonable amount of slack. The side you circled has more to do with his leg positioning with his heel being driven down and pointing his toe up more by choice.

Definitely. I wore the top straps on my double break V4's loose to the point of being pointless.

I never liked (and still don't) the idea of storing pads upside down for more curve either,

Most pads are too stiff or springy to hold curve just by being stored upside too. My G6s haven't really gotten the curve I'd hoped they would

Good eye, i see what you're saying.  I was more circling for emphasizing how the squishy boot is wrapping around the skate rather than the toe tie.

I see you're new here too, welcome, thanks for joining.

And how WIIIIIDE pads were. People forget how much narrower modern pads are than pre-2005 lockout.

Only one inch narrower.

Just Sayin'

Modern pads are much taller and boxier though. So they look drastically different.

People used to store their gear under benches to force a curve on their pads. I always saw that as intentionally breaking down your pads early.

Many pads have a lot of lacing cord that is pretty loose. My dad would pull the cord tighter to add more curve to his pads, which is something I have done to mine. I would find anywhere from 2-6" of lacing cord when tightening it up, and that isn't stressing the cord, even.
