Here's my setup that I really appreciate.  It was cheap, it's light weight, customizable in terms of the compartment sizes, can close if needed (I never close it).  More than enough room for a full set of gear, extra gloves/mask, and all my  jerseys/socks etc.  I got if for under $50.  It lives in my laundry room in our basement and for 24 hours after I play I have a rotating fan in front of it.

I also have these shelves in our garage for older gear that I don't currently use.  They are also good for air drying.  I keep my bag on the bottom shelf in the garage and the rest of my gear that I use stays in the basement of our house.

Seagoal, do you know where you got that unit? I can't seem to find anything like it that would fit the bill.

Great setups. Lots of good ideas. I'm starting to realize me with my basement rec room with half a dozen different types of gear goalie/player/ball hockey/street/pond etc is for peasants. I need to upgrade. Will update with progress once my life is back to normal. Building a house and moving is a nightmare

The key is ventilation. Of course there is also the good ol’ PVC pipe gear tree that you can even make to look like a goalie. You can add holes to sections of pipe and rig up a few blow dryers to get air into your gloves and skates. I may have to do that once I can get down to just one set of gear.

Well isn’t that just adorable. I feel like yours is the first of a two-parter, where yours is subtitled “The Ideal”, and mine is subtitled “The Reality”

Of course this was taken on a weekend where I had played, my wife and two kids had played, and I had coached my son’s practice. But hey - nothing left to rot in a bag at least, and there’s a turbo fan just out of the frame! 😇

Not sure if just tossing stuff around and seeing where it sticks counts as "storage" ;)

  • 1 year later...

I've got a system that works really well too.

First I lightly spray everything with Extra Strength Febreeze, thoroughly dry it in my Panda Clothing Dryer (found online, exact same as Rocket Dryer except much less expensive), and then store it in my laundry room with a nice metal closet organizer I bought from Amazon.

Takes 2 shifts with the Panda for all the goalie equipment because of the size and amount, but all gear comes out crispy dry and smelling fresh. Bacteria cannot form if you dry it thoroughly after every skate which not only leaves no bad odors, but also makes your gear last much longer. I keep the dryer in the garage.

The rack is metal and is quite narrow and easily fits in my small laundry room.  It has large hanging spaces for the chesty, pants, and jerseys, and smaller spaces for the other gear. The leg pads fit easily on top.  Since there is no smell, there's no issues with keeping the rack inside the house.

On the topic of drying, I use a fan unit with connecting shelves (pictured below) that blows room temperature air been happy with it over the years other than it being built for the odd piece of clothing, not oversized bulky sports gear. Some units on the market, like the Rocket Dryer blows warm air. Have you found that your gear is crusty or stiffer after drying in warm air?
