How big is your nose (if you don't mind my asking)? I have an Eddy mask (GTII I think, size large) and I replaced the chin cup with one from Sportmask because I prefer feeling closer to the cage to improve peripheral sightlines. My nose gets close but doesn't touch (I have a long nose), though the mask is too wide so I had to add in extra cheek padding. Maybe see how a larger size fits you as well? I have heard of people using masks that have the cage in contact with the nose, so I don't think it's a huge deal other than you might get a nosebleed if you take a hard enough shot to that spot of the cage. I've heard of and seen some guys wearing the cage so close it seems unwise and have been warned by their trainers/coaches, and this was in the pros. I had the mask shipped from Toronto to Gatineau. Spending on back and forth shipping like that doesn't fancy me. Had it been local, that would be a different story. I'm trying to get a hold of Tony at Sportmask but he's not easy to track down. Some guys crank down on the back plate so much, the front of their face gets squished into the mask. Alternatively, it could also be that the mask is a smidge too wide for your face. Maybe look a size down. It's possible your cheeks aren't in optimal contact with the cheek padding. Try putting the mask on, grabbing the cage, and shaking the mask around. Is there movement or does your head go with it? How did you size it, what measurements did you use and how did you measure? Pictures would help. Front, side, and back with the mask on. 1 hour ago, TitanG said: I don't know if Tony is still at Sportmask. RichMan
Don't mind my pretty mug. I'll mess with the backplate some more and see. So I bought a Sportmask to show my support to a Canadian company and the owner, Tony, which I've met years ago and now I find out he's not even involved anymore!?! WTF! Why? Please answer bolded in my post above and below. Those cheeks look a little loose, but it's hard to tell because the closest shot you gave has the bars in the way. Also provide your crown measurement (straight around the temples, across the forehead) in cm. If you can provide a pic with the tape measure around your head and the numbers clearly visible, even better. What size mask did you purchase? Hard to tell with the angle, but the backplate does look pretty tight in there. Leaning toward the mask being a bit too big for you at the moment. Here is a great reason why you don't want your nose touching the cage...

I followed the measuring instructions on the Sportmask website. I'm a 58cm and 1/4 almost 1/2.
RichMan
Has anyone reached out to Sportmask lately? Did they respond? Did it take long? Were they helpful? Tried through the website, no response. Posted on their Facebook page, only got a "can you post pics". Even went as far as contacting Tony Priolo in private FB messenger, no response yet. RichMan
Well, as much as I tried and as much as I want to make it work, I think the mask is just not shaped right for me. Too bad. With little chance of seeing Canadian made brands hands on before purchasing, it becomes more like pulling the trigger on a slot machine hoping to hit something. Solid build but no can do

I was hoping the X8 was going to be a quick fix. I was wrong. I might consider Michel and just continue with my Reidic for this season. Sounds to me like this mask is either too big or wide for your facial structure, this is why your nose is grazing the cage. At this point, I'm narrowing it down to a measurement error, or your facial structure is pretty narrow. If you'd like, you can submit a picture like this (left). Note how snug the mask is at the temples (right). You've got a pretty big gap at the temples, maybe 1/2" on each side.
RichMan
I know how to measure @Chenner29, I'm not new to this game. Everyone I reached out to has asked me the same question. Sorry if I come across as an asshole, I just don't like to be made to feel like a schmuck. One thing I'll say is, you have been the only one that has somewhat come through with valiant effort, so thank you for that. Sportmask has NOT replied to my 2 messages through their website. They have responded on their Facebook page but then went MIA after I posted my pics. Reached out to Tony just for a little insight and touch base, MIA. The store I bought it from felt the pressure of losing a sale with my asking for a return/refund, that's when they asked for pics as well, then MIA. CLEARLY, I would of profited of a better service from Sportmask if they would answer customer mail. Maybe it's because I didn't buy directly from them, I don't know. Either way, I spent $500 on a mask that doesn't fit my head/face well and I'm left with a sour taste in my mouth.

You'd be surprised at how many adults (some with advanced degrees) get the measurement wrong the first time, until I ask for a picture with the measuring tape across the temples like I posted above. When we get this measurement corrected, there is a 99% chance it fits perfect out of the box. Let me be clear, there is no judgment except whatever you are perceiving...your situation is in my wheelhouse and I am just trying to help. For there to be that large of a gap between your temples and the padding I highlighted above, two factors would need to check out: 1 - you have an very narrow face, and 2 - your head is significantly longer (front to back) than it is wide (left to right). Mask should not wiggle as you described in a previous post. I'm tempted to recommend a Small, but I want to see the measurement with measuring tape to see exactly what is going on. What size Reidic are you in? What size fitted ball cap do you wear? I can't speak for what's going on at the factory as I'm pretty far down the chain of command, but since you did purchase from a shop I would call them and see what can be done - this is standard procedure for most companies with a retail distributor program. RichMan
@Chenner29 it's not personal with nor at you, I'm just frustrated with the whole thing. Here are 2 pics showing both measurements in inches and centimeters. As you can see, the numbers put me in a medium. A small might run the side jaw edges too high near my actual jaw line. My opinion. Thanks for the pictures - here is something weird. In inches, you are 22 5/8. If you convert that to cm, you should be at 57.4675....but the tape measure you showed for the cm side says 57.8. We're almost half a cm off on that side. Regardless, a small caps off at 56cm, based strictly on your measurements you should be in a Medium. If I were assisting you with a sale, we would definitely need to unwind it a bit and look at a few things, but since you purchased it from a retailer, I have a few recommendations at this point... Phone the retailer and see what they can do. It's possible they can contact Sportmask to get you another layer of padding to fill some of the negative space in your shell. Get some of your own D3O sheets (that's a link and you can click it) and DIY...rip out all the padding, put the D3O up against the shell and the stock padding on top of that, closest to your face. Take the mask with you to Michel at Protechsport (I believe you are in Quebec, not sure how far you are from him) and see what he recommends...maybe you can purchase some padding from him and fill in the gap yourself. I am pretty sure he's sold padding to people who don't have his mask. Return the mask, bite the wait time bullet and let Michel take care of you. If it were me, and assuming your ReidiC is in good enough condition, I'd go 3/4. If you're close and can make the drive, you probably don't even need to make a mold for Michel, he can just take calipers and get some measurements off your head. RichMan
My intentions were to buy a new mask and use it now, not spend on a build up project. The extra it would cost I could of purchased a more expensive mask with. The lack of follow through with my inquiry from Sportmask is very disappointing. Not happy, sorry. seagoal
Pretty minor but I'm bored. I decided to paint my clips myself in anticipation of my new Sportmask getting painted right now. I also bought black straps for it, which I think will aesthetically look best on this paintjob, not to mention the monster's straps will be black too, so we'll match. The paint on the clips is not perfect and they're pretty tacky, so not set on keeping them. May end up just buying red ones.
